"Dance"This is the third of 3 pieces that I made for an Olympic-year exhibition with the theme of "sport and movement". The other 2 pieces were entitled "Podium" and "Go".
As with the other two pieces, I began with just the title, but I soon connected that with something along these lines that I had had in my mind for a while. I should maybe declare an interest in dancing generally, and in Salsa in particular. Maybe the chap's hat might look more at home at a milonga, but you've got to admit that those hips are definitely more salsa than Argentine Tango . ("Strictly" fans may now nod sagely while I sigh wistfully and dream of Flavia). The physical making of this didn't really take too long but, even though I had the design in mind already, turning that design from elegant stokes on the pages of my design folder into something that could be pieced from a sheet of silver proved quite challenging. But the rounds of reworking artistic license with engineering realities produced - I think - a very pleasing minimalist result. The pendant is ~50mm tall and set on a sterling snake chain. |
