"Podium"The Olympics were unavoidable in 2012, and so it was that I got involved in an exhibition with the theme of "sport and movement". I had to make 3 pieces to exhibit.
I decided to approach the work by defining a more specific title for each piece. "Podium", "Dance" and "Go" were what I decided upon. In this simple interpretation of the 'podium', apart from the obvious use of the three medal metals, I tried to reflect the steps of the physical medal podium. The largest piece is actual bronze, not copper, although that will be feature of the specific alloy that I used. Bronze is quite a loosely defined alloy, so there will be other bronzes with much browner shades. And, anyway, it will change colour through patination over time. |
