Moonlight on the Water |
The idea of texturing a bar of silver to give a rippled effect is not new, nor is the idea of enamelling over the texture to give different shades of colour (yes, this is one colour - the lighter shades are just the thinnest layers and the darkest bits the thickest...... but only 0.5mm thick at the most).
What really makes this sparkle....... like moonlight on the water.... is that I ground the enamel back so that the tops of the ridges in the silver just started to peep through. I then re-fired the enamel, using a hand torch rather than my kiln to give some extra texture to the enamel surface. It's ~60mm x12mm and comes on a 4mm thick silicon rubber cord to ensure that it can't twist over and that it sits obediently 'right side up". |
