Please note: I will be busy with an exhibition and then a long holiday for the whole of November, so won't be able to complete many commisssions in time for Christmas.

Brooch 2 - Petruchio's Kiss

Brooch 002 - Petruchio's Kiss

While browsing the net for kiss-related quotations, this one really caught my imagination.  It comes from The Taming of the Shrew, and is Gremio's account of the marriage of his master Petruchio with Kate.

"This done he took the bride about the neck and kiss'd her lips with such a clamorous smack that, at the parting, all the church did echo".

That's a bit of a mouthful for the title of the piece, so I settled on "Petruchio's Kiss" (other options were "the Smackeroonee" and "A big soggy wet one", but I thought I'd better behave myself for once).

In case you haven't got it, the shape is meant to represent the church (I assume they were married in one), and Petruchio's arm folding round.

As often, I used a pearl to represent the kiss, but, clearly, this could be no dainty little thing - the kiss was a 'clamourous smack', after all.  Fortunately, I had bought this big (15mm) mabe pearl some months before, and I think that it fits the bill perfectly.

(I'll post a description of what a mabe pearl is, sometime)
