Big Man's Bangle

Let's call him David.  It's a reasonable thing to do, 'cos that's his name.

He wanted a bangle making, using the silver from a bracelet his mother had given him many years ago. 

Now, David is a big man (I can say that given that, I suspect, I am even more ample) so this was not going to be some dainty little piece.  He wanted it 'chunky'.  And he wanted it fit very snugly round his wrist.  Not a slip on 'jangle bangle'. 

Hm.  Of course, there were options to put in lengths of chain or suchlike, but I took on the challenge of making something that would look as sleek as possible.  I came up with the idea of an 'invisible' hinged joint and a tongue-and-socket clip.

The bangle opens up to allow David to slip his wrist in, then flips closed.  Then gentle squeeze allow the tongue to slip into the socket and the whole thing is held closed by the natural spring in the silver (It's 3mm thick, , so plenty strong enough)

I'm pleased to say that it worked rather well.  Some fine tuning to work the bangle into the exact shape of his wrist means that it sits there as snugly as a wrist watch.  David tells me that any number of people have asked him how on earth he gets the bangle on - in normal light, the joins are far less visible than under the glare of my macro-photography setup
